United Airlines 787 Denver-Tokyo Diverts to San Francisco Amid Technical Problem

In the last few moments, a United Airlines Boeing 787 bound for Tokyo from Denver has diverted to San Francisco due to a technical problem onboard.

Information is limited pertinent to this incident, but below is what we know on this so far.

In the last few moments, a United Airlines Boeing 787 bound for Tokyo from Denver has diverted to San Francisco due to a technical problem onboard.

United Airlines flight UA143, which diverted to San Francisco, is a routine scheduled flight between Denver and Tokyo Narita.

Also, it is understood the aircraft involved is N19951.

As per data from Planespotters.net, N19951 is a 9.7 year old Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner that was delivered to the airline in October 2014.

Furthermore, of the 787-9 variant, United Airlines has 38 of them in their fleet.

Within the 38, all are in commercial service, with an average fleet age of 6.9 years.

Moreover, as well as the 787-9, UA has the following aircraft in their mainline fleet:

  • 81 Airbus A319s.
  • 85 Airbus A320s.
  • 12 Airbus A321neos.
  • 500 Boeing 737 Family aircraft.

United Airlines flight UA143, which diverted to San Francisco, departed Denver at 1158 local time today and tracked west towards Tokyo.

Over the Oregon area, the aircraft made a deviation south in the direction of SFO.

Furthermore, it is key to note the aircraft didn’t declare an emergency at any point during this diversion.

Finally, United Airlines flight UA143 from Denver bound for Tokyo landed safely into San Francisco at 1409 local time.

As per the United Airlines Flight Status, UA143 from Denver to Tokyo diverted to San Francisco due to an aircraft maintenance issue with the Boeing 787.

This indicates that a technical problem has occurred on the aircraft and will require a fix.

It is understood there will be a delay of two to three hours whilst the issues are sorted.
