On July 7, a United Airlines Boeing 767 bound for London had to return to Newark due to problems with it’s hydraulic systems.
Information has been released pertinent to this incident, which we will get into in this article.
Without further ado, let’s get into it…
United Airlines UA934 – Newark to London…
United Airlines flight UA934, which suffered the hydraulic problems, is a routine scheduled flight between Newark and London Heathrow.
Also, the aircraft involved in the incident is N657UA.
As per data from Planespotters.net, N657UA is a 31.4 year old Boeing 767-300ER that was delivered to the airline in March 1993.
Furthermore, of the 767-300ER variant, United Airlines has 37 of them in the fleet.
Within that 37, all but five are in active service, with an average fleet age of 28.4 years.
In total, the airline has 959 aircraft in their mainline fleet, consisting of the following:
- 81 Airbus A319s.
- 85 Airbus A320s.
- 12 Airbus A321 Family aircraft.
- 500 Boeing 737 Family aircraft.
- 61 Boeing 757 Family aircraft.
- 53 Boeing 767 Family aircraft.
- 96 Boeing 777 Family aircraft.
- 71 Boeing 787 Family aircraft.
United Airlines flight UA934 departed Newark at 0855 local time and tracked east towards London Heathrow.
Over the Moncton area, the aircraft made a u-turn and a beeline back to where the aircraft came from.
Moreover, it landed safely without further incident at 1138 local time.
The Aviation Herald reports that the crew onboard “received a low quality indication” on it’s hydraulics system, which as a result of those problems, resulted in a shutdown of the left-hand system.
Aircraft Grounded for 48 Hours…
Following that incident, the aircraft was grounded for around 48 hours, while the issue was addressed.
The aircraft re-entered commercial service yesterday and at the time of writing is currently across the Atlantic operating the UA964 service to Napoli.
Furthermore, data from RadarBox states that the aircraft is expected to operate the following rotations in the next 48 hours:
- UA965 – Napoli to Newark.
- UA964 – EWR to Napoli.
- UA965 – Napoli to EWR.
- UA110 – EWR to LHR.
No further issues have been reported with the aircraft following the hydraulic problems on the United Airlines 767 operating the flight between Newark and London.
