A United Airlines Boeing 737-800 made an emergency landing in Denver after reportedly striking a rabbit during takeoff on 13 April.

United Airlines Flight UA2325, a Boeing 737-800, was conducting a departure from Denver International Airport (DEN). The flight, bound for Edmonton, Alberta in Canada was carrying 153 passengers and six crew members.

During the takeoff roll, the aircraft reportedly striking a rabbit. The incident, which occurred around 7:20 pm local time, has sparked discussions about wildlife hazards at airports.

United Airlines Wildlife Strike Incident

Shortly after departing Denver, passengers heard a loud bang followed by intense vibrations. Video footage captured by travelers showed flames erupting from the right engine, a CFM56 model.

The pilots quickly declared a “Mayday” and circled back to DEN, landing safely after about 75 minutes airborne. No injuries were reported, and passengers praised the crew’s swift response.

The aircraft conducting the aborted flight UA2325 service was a Boeing 737-800, registered N27213. This is a 26.8 year old narrowbody aircraft belonging to the carrier United Airlines. It has been in operational service with the airline since October 2010.

The unusual nature of a rabbit strike—far rarer than bird strikes—has raised eyebrows. Airports like DEN implement wildlife management programs, but small animals can still pose risks.

A rabbit, likely ingested by the engine, caused a fire that alarmed passengers. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is expected to investigate, focusing on engine damage and airport wildlife protocols.

United Airlines has not released detailed statements but confirmed the safe handling of the incident.

Passenger accounts shared on social media described a tense atmosphere. One traveler noted the cabin’s silence as flames were visible outside, while another commended the pilots’ calm professionalism.
