The May bank holiday weekend in 2025 is set to be a bustling time for UK travellers, with airports expecting even more activity than the Easter bank holiday.

According to aviation analytics experts at Cirium, UK airports will see a surge in flights, offering millions of seats for holidaymakers.

Weekend Flight Movements

Over the early May bank holiday weekend, UK airports are scheduled to operate 11,746 departing flights.

This translates to more than two million seats, surpassing the 11,278 flights recorded during the Easter weekend.

Friday, May 2, will likely be the busiest day, with 3,099 flights taking off. This is expected to outpace Easter Friday’s numbers.

While the UK travel figures show a strong recovery for the aviation industry, departures are still 6% lower than in 2019, when 12,430 flights left UK airports during the same weekend.

However, compared to 2024’s 11,549 flights, this year’s numbers reflect a 2% increase, highlighting the sector’s steady rebound.
