Two SAUDIA Boeing 777s Suffer Ground Collision in Riyadh

It has emerged this week that two SAUDIA Boeing 777 aircraft suffered a ground collision in Riyadh, with damage reported on both aircraft.

It has emerged this week that two SAUDIA Boeing 777 aircraft suffered a ground collision in Riyadh, with damage reported on both aircraft.

Information is limited on this, but below is what we know on this so far.

Without further ado, let’s get into it…

HZ-AK36 & HZ-AK43: The Two SAUDIA Boeing 777s Which Collided in Riyadh…


The two SAUDIA Boeing 777-300ER aircraft involved in the ground collision at Riyadh Airport was HZ-AK36 & HZ-AK43.

Also, below is data on both HZ-AK36 & HZ-AK43, as per data from Planespotters.net.

HZ-AK36 is a 7.9 year old airframe that was delivered to the airline back in November 2016.

As for HZ-AK43, it is a 7.3 year old airframe that was delivered to the airline back in May 2017.

Of the 777-300ER variant, SAUDIA has 37 of them in their fleet.

Moreover, of that 37, all but one are in active service, with an average fleet age of 9.9 years.

As well as the 777-300ER aircraft, the airline has the following other aircraft in their mainline fleet:

  • 37 Airbus A320s.
  • 22 Airbus A321s.
  • 33 Airbus A330s.
  • 6 Boeing 747s.
  • 2 Boeing 777-200s.
  • 4 Boeing 777 Freighters.
  • 21 Boeing 787s.

It is understood the two incidents between the SAUDIA Boeing 777-300ERs at Riyadh Airport took place on August 20 during a pushback manoeuvre.

Moreover, the aircraft suffered damages such as:

  • Cockpit windshield damage.
  • Nose area skins.
  • Tail cone damage near the APU exhaust area.

Both Aircraft Grounded for Repairs…


It has emerged this week that two SAUDIA Boeing 777 aircraft suffered a ground collision in Riyadh, with damage reported on both aircraft.

It is understood that both SAUDIA Boeing 777-300ER aircraft in Riyadh will be grounded following this incident that took place.

Furthermore, it is unclear when the aircraft will be able to re-enter commercial service.

This depends on the extent of the damage to each aircraft, and what parts will be needed.

As soon as we have more information pertinent to this, then we will update you accordingly.
