Two LATAM Aircraft in Ground Collision at São Paulo Airport

Two LATAM aircraft - an A320neo and an A319-100 - sustained damage in a ground collision incident at Congonhas Airport in São Paulo on 3 December.

Two LATAM aircraft were involved in a ground collision at Congonhas Airport in São Paulo on 3 December 2024. The incident involved a LATAM Airlines Brazil Airbus A320neo and an Airbus A319-100 which was being parked. Both aircraft were preparing to conduct scheduled flights.

The A320neo, operating as flight LA3064 for Curitiba was taxiing for departure. During the low speed taxi, its right-hand wing struck the tail of the A319-100.  The A319-100 was being pushed to the gate as flight LA3176 to Campo Grande.

The ground incident damaged both aircraft, leading to their removal from service. LATAM reported no injuries from either aircraft, and the collision occurred at low speed.The damage sustained by the two aircraft necessitated ground inspections and maintenance repairs.

Video footage of the incident shows the moment the taxiing A321neo’s righthand winglet impacted the tailcone of the A319-100.

Photographs show the A319-100 sustained damage to the tailcone assembly near the aircraft’s Auxiliary Power Unit (APU).

In a subsequent statement, LATAM confirmed the collision between the two aircraft. The airline said that “the event did not put any of the passengers and crew of both planes at risk, who disembarked normally and in complete safety”.

Aircraft Details


The Airbus A320neo involved bore the registration PR-XBG. This is a one-year-old narrowbody aircraft belonging to the carrier LATAM Airlines Brazil. It has been in operational service with the airline since its initial delivery from the factory in December 2023. The aircraft is currently operating in special Brazil flag livery.

Airbus A319-100, registered PT-TMA, is a 15.4-year-old narrowbody aircraft also belonging to LATAM Airlines Brazil. The aircraft has been in operational service with the carrier its initial delivery in August 2009.

The Brazilian Aeronautical Accident Investigation and Prevention Center (Cenipa) will now conduct an investigation of the ground incident.
