Turkish Airlines Flight TK1411 Istanbul-Constantine Declares Emergency

Turkish Airlines flight TK1411, a B737-900 enroute to Constantine from Istanbul, has declared an emergency and is diverting to Malta.

A Turkish Airlines Boeing 737-900 operating between Istanbul and Constantine has declared an emergency with squawk code 7700 and is diverting to Malta.

Turkish Airlines flight TK1411, operated by a Boeing 737-900ER, declared the emergency whilst enroute to Constantine. The flight is now carrying out a diversion to Malta International Airport (MLA).

Flight TK1411 declared the emergency from the cruise and is currently on a direct track for Malta Luqa International Airport (MLA). The nature of the emergency prompting the off-track diversion is not yet known.

11:10 UTC: Descent into Malta Luqa (MLA)

Flight TK1411 has continued the diversion, squawking code 7700. The flight is now below 10,000 feet on the early stages of its approach to the diversion airport Malta (MLA).

Weather for the flight’s arrival is currently VFR, with visibility 10 kilometers or more and no cloud below 10,000 feet.

Flight TK1411 has maintained squawk code 7700 and is now on descent through 7,000 feet for an approach to Malta (MLA).

Flight data shows that Turkish Airlines flight TK1411 made a departure out of Istanbul Airport (IST) at 1212 local time this afternoon. The flight had set course normally, and was on climb through FL320 (32,000 feet). Flight crew then terminated the climb and initiated a diversion and descent.

Pilots squawked transponder code 7700 at 1050 UTC as the aircraft commenced descent.

11:38 UTC: Landed Malta (MLA)


Flight TK1411 has now landed at the diversion airport Malta (MLA). The nature of the emergency is not yet known.

The aircraft conducting this afternoon’s TK1411 service from Istanbul was a Boeing 737-900ER, registered TC-JYB. This is a 13.3 year old narrowbody aircraft belonging to the national carrier Turkish Airlines. It has been in operational service with the airline since its initial delivery from the factory in December 2011.
