Turkish Airlines expands its global reach by adding Sydney, Australia’s largest city, to its extensive flight network.

This marks the airline’s second venture into the continent and its first Australian destination with future non-stop flights. Starting December 4, 2024, flights from Istanbul to Sydney will operate four times weekly. These will be routed via Kuala Lumpur using Airbus A350-900 aircraft.

This new route strengthens Turkish Airlines’ presence in Australia and boosts connections between Türkiye and Australia. It’s expected to drive growth in tourism, trade, and cultural exchange between the two nations.

Major Step in Long-Term Strategy

The addition of Sydney to Turkish Airlines’ global network comes at a time of increasing international travel demand. The move represents a major step in the airline’s long-term expansion strategy.

By connecting Istanbul, a historic crossroads between East and West, with Sydney, a vibrant Pacific hub, Turkish Airlines is bridging continents and cultures in unprecedented ways.

Prof. Ahmet Bolat, Turkish Airlines Chairman of the Board and Executive Committee, commented on the expansion. “We’re excited to launch our Sydney route, opening a new chapter in our Australian operations. This addition enhances our network and reaffirms our commitment to Australia.”

“We’ll connect passengers to new opportunities and experiences with Turkish Airlines’ renowned comfort and hospitality. Sydney will become our first Australian destination with non-stop flights once we acquire aircraft capable of the journey.”

John Graham, Minister for Jobs and Tourism, expressed his enthusiasm. “Turkish Airlines’ arrival in Sydney is fantastic news, offering European travelers direct access to our state’s world-class attractions.”

“The NSW Government collaborated closely with Sydney Airport and Turkish Airlines to secure this service. As Australia’s gateway, Sydney’s new route holds immense potential for our visitor economy growth.”

Scott Charlton, Sydney Airport CEO, stated: “These direct flights mark a milestone for European travel, providing seamless access to hundreds of destinations from Turkish Airlines’ Istanbul hub.”

“We’re proud that Turkish Airlines chose Sydney and NSW for their first non-stop service, endorsing our city and state’s offerings. From December 2024, passengers can enjoy Turkish Airlines’ award-winning service from Sydney to Istanbul via Kuala Lumpur.”

Charlton added: “With over 15,000 Turkish-born Australians in New South Wales and Türkiye’s popularity among Australian travelers, we expect strong support for this service.”

“This announcement significantly impacts Sydney and NSW economies, highlighting international aviation’s role in supporting our visitor economy. We look forward to Turkish Airlines’ inaugural flight and future growth.”

Sydney, Australia’s largest city and New South Wales’ capital, is a major global center for business, tourism, and arts. Home to the iconic Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge, it offers unique experiences for all visitors. The city’s diverse attractions, from world-class dining and shopping to beautiful beaches and national parks, make it an ideal destination for both leisure and business travelers.

Now, global travelers can enjoy Sydney with Turkish Airlines’ comfort and hospitality, while Australian passengers gain convenient access to the airline’s vast network.
