A Turkish Airlines Airbus A330-300 experienced an engine problem shortly after departure from Milan, Italy on 17 May 2024.
Turkish airlines flight TK1876, an Airbus A330-300 bound for Istanbul Airport (IST), was conducting a departure from Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP).

Shortly after the aircraft’s departure from MXP RWY 35L, the flight crew reportedly observed smoke issuing from one engine.
Following the abnormal observation, flight crew terminated the climb and initiated a precautionary return to Milan.
The aircraft subsequently landed without further incident, approximately 30 minutes after its initial departure. The extent of the engine problem has not been confirmed, however the scheduled service to Istanbul was cancelled as a result.
Flight data shows that flight TK1876 made an on-time departure out of Milan MXP at 2000 local time on 17 May.
The aircraft was still below 10,000 feet when the incident occurred, and the climb procedure was terminated at 6000 feet.
The aircraft then entered a brief period of holding in the vicinity of the airport. Shortly thereafter, flight crew made the decision to initiate a precautionary return.
Formal emergency was not declared in the aircraft returned under normal operating procedures.
Airbus A330-300 TC-JOK
The aircraft conducting the TK1786 scheduled service was an Airbus A330-300, registered TC-JOK. This is an 8.9-year-old wide-body aircraft belonging to the national carrier Turkish Airlines.
The GE-engine equipped aircraft has been in active service with the airline since its initial delivery in July 2015.
