Turkish Airlines A321neo Suffers Tailstrike on Landing in Dublin

A Turkish Airlines Airbus A321neo arriving from Istanbul, Turkey sustained a tail strike during its landing in Dublin on 18 October 2024.

Turkish Airlines flight TK1975, operated by an Airbus A321neo, was conducting an arrival from Istanbul Airport (IST). The flight was given clearance to land on a runway 28L Dublin Airport (DUB).

During the landing phase, the aircraft’s tail contacted the runway surface. Following this, flight crew conducted a go around and the aircraft was positioned for a second approach.

The flight subsequently landed without further incident from the second approach attempt, approximately 15 minutes after the go around procedure was initiated.

The scheduled return flight to Istanbul was cancelled as a result of the landing incident. According to the online source Aviation Herald, flight crew requested a runway inspection after the event. A post landing inspection of the aircraft’s tail assembly was also conducted after arrival.

Flight Details


Flight data shows that flight TK1975 made an on-time departure out of Istanbul at 0654 local time on 18 October. The flight had then proceeded normally, climbing to flight level FL340 four the north-westerly route to Ireland.

Descent and initial approach procedures at Dublin were similarly conducted normally. There were no significant weather factors predicted for the flight’s arrival, and prevailing winds were light and variable.

The aircraft conducting the TK1975 service from Istanbul was an Airbus A321neo, registered TC-LTL. This is a two year old narrowbody aircraft belonging to the national carrier Turkish Airlines.

It has been an operational service since its initial delivery from the factory in November 2022.
