TUI Flight BY7406 Birmingham-Faro Declares Emergency, Diverts to Brest

TUI flight BY7406, a B737-800 operating from Birmingham to Faro, declared an emergency enroute and diverted to Brest earlier this morning.

A TUI B737-800 operating a scheduled service between Birmingham and Faro declared an emergency whilst enroute earlier this morning, before diverting to Brest.

TUI flight BY7406, operated by a Boeing 737-800, was enroute from Birmingham International Airport (BHX) to Faro Airport (FAO). Flight crew squawked transponder code 7700 whilst on track approaching France. The crew declared an emergency and expedited a descent and diversion to Brest Bretagne Airport (BES) from cruising altitude.

The aircraft diverted from a point approaching the French coast. TUI flight BY7406 then landed at the diversion airport Brest Bretagne (BES) earlier this morning. The nature of the emergency prompting the expedited diversion is not yet known.

Flight Details


Flight data shows that TUI flight BY7406 made a departure out of Birmingham International Airport at 0618 local time this morning. The flight had proceeded normally, setting course and climbing to flight level FL370 (37,000 feet).

Flight crew squawked transponder code 7700 at 0719 BST whilst in cruise at FL370. A descent was then carried out before the flight subsequently diverted to nearby Brest.

The aircraft conducting this morning’s BY7406 scheduled service to Faro, Portugal was a Boeing 737-800, registered G-TAWC. This is a 12.7 year old narrow body aircraft belong to the carrier TUI Airways. It has been in operational service with the airline since October 2017.
