The Ottawa International Airport Authority (OIAA) has joined with Searidge Technologies to launch an innovative project that promises to transform ramp operations.
This nine-month demonstration of Searidge’s Smart Stand technology at Ottawa International Airport (YOW) marks a significant step towards digitalizing and streamlining airport processes.
The Smart Stand Ramp Operation
Smart Stand harnesses the potential of artificial intelligence to revolutionize aircraft turnaround procedures.
These complex operations involve hundreds of tasks and multiple stakeholders, often lacking efficient coordination tools. By leveraging AI, Smart Stand aims to:
- Improve accuracy in data collection
- Automate timestamp generation for key processes like aircraft on/off block times, and passenger deplaning and boarding
- Enhance real-time monitoring of airport gates
- Stream vital data to the Airport Operations Control Centre (AOCC)
Key Benefits for Airport Operations
The implementation of Smart Stand is expected to yield numerous advantages:
- Enhanced on-time performance
- Optimized use of available infrastructure
- Reduced operator workload
- Improved ability to predict and prevent delays
These benefits will contribute to smoother operations for both the OIAA and its airline partners, ultimately leading to an improved passenger experience.
Flexible Integration Options
Smart Stand offers versatility in its implementation. Airports can choose to use it as a standalone product or integrate it into the broader Searidge Platform.
This collaborative environment facilitates secure data sharing among various aviation stakeholders, adhering to cybersecurity best practices and ensuring high availability.
Ottawa International Airport: A Hub of Innovation
Ottawa International Airport, serving Canada’s capital city, has long been at the forefront of technological advancements in the aviation industry.
As the country’s sixth-busiest airport, YOW handles millions of passengers annually. It plays a crucial role in connecting Ottawa to destinations worldwide.
The airport’s commitment to innovation is evident in its history of collaborations with Searidge Technologies. The partnering has previously seen the installation of an Integrated Remote Tower operation as well as Approach Monitoring capability.
These partnerships have consistently improved airside situational awareness and safety measures. The implementation of Smart Stand further cements YOW’s position as a leader in airport technology adoption.
Leadership Perspectives
Mark Laroche, CEO of the Ottawa International Airport Authority, was supportive of the new project. “This collaboration builds on our successful history with Searidge Technologies.”
“Smart Stand’s capabilities will drive operational efficiencies and ultimately enhance service for our passengers.”
Moodie Cheikh, CEO and co-founder of Searidge Technologies, highlighted the significance of the partnership.
“We value OIAA’s willingness to join us in digitally transforming apron operations. This project will showcase the technology’s power at Canada’s Capital airport, positioning it as an AI-model airport globally.”
Looking Ahead
The Smart Stand 9-month demonstration period is set to commence in Summer 2024. As the aviation industry continues to evolve, initiatives like this pave the way for more efficient, safe, and passenger-friendly airport operations.
The success of this project could set a new standard for airports worldwide, furthering a new era of AI-driven operational processes.
