Tigerair Taiwan A320-200 Suffers Steering Failure on Landing in Kaohsiung

A Tigerair Taiwan Airbus A320-200 arriving from Macau suffered the nose gear steering problem on landing in Kaohsiung, Taiwan on 29 September 2024.

Tigerair Taiwan flight IT322, an Airbus A320-200 arriving from Macau International Airport (MFM) was making an approach to runway 09 Kaohsiung International Airport.

During the landing procedure, the aircraft reportedly suffered a loss of nosewheel steering. Flight crew then brought the aircraft to a stop on the runway under directional control. The aircraft was disabled on the active runway as a result. A service vehicle placed the aircraft under tow and removed it to the apron hardstanding area.

According to the online source Aviation Herald, the airport was closed to traffic for approximately 90 minutes after the landing incident. ATC diverted a number of inbound flights to alternative airports.

Flight data shows that the flight IT322 made an on-time departure out of Macau International Airport at 1100 local time on 29 September.

The flight had proceeded normally, climbing to flight level FL330 (33,000 feet) for the easterly crossing to Taiwan.The aircraft conducted a normal descent and approach, and air traffic control authorized its landing on runway 09. The nose gear steering issue arose during the subsequent landing roll.

The aircraft conducting the IT322 service from Macau was an Airbus A320-200, registered B-50005. This is a 9.6-year-old narrowbody aircraft belonging to the carrier Tigerair Taiwan.

It has been operational service with the airline since its initial delivery from the factory in March 2015.

Tigerair Taiwan is a Taiwanese low-cost airline based at Taoyuan International Airport. It offers affordable flights to various destinations, primarily within Asia.
