A TAAG Angola Airlines Boeing 737-700 operating a flight from Luanda, Angola to Cape Town, South Africa diverted to Windhoek after losing cabin pressure on 2 December 2024.
TAAG Angola Airlines flight DT579 was being operated by a Boeing 737-700. It had conducted a departure from Quatro de Fevereiro Luanda International Airport (LAD). The aircraft was performing a scheduled service bound for Cape Town International Airport (CPT).

Whilst en route in cruising flight to the north of Windhoek, Namibia, the aircraft experienced a loss of cabin pressure. Flight crew initiated an immediate emergency descent to 10,000 feet. Following the descent, the operating crew elected to make a precautionary diversion to Windhoek.
The aircraft was able to land without further incident at Windhoek Hosea Kutako International Airport (WDH). The flight landed at the diversion airport approximately 60 minutes after the depressurised descent was carried out.

Available flight data shows that flight DT579 had made a delayed departure out of Luanda. Actual time of departure was logged as 0952 local time on 2 December. The flight had then set course normally, climbing to flight level FL370 for the southerly service to Cape Town, South Africa.
The aircraft was in cruising flight at FL370 approximately 350 nautical miles to the north of Windhoek when the cabin depressurisation event occurred.
A direct track to the diversion airport in Windhoek was then carried out at 10,000 feet following the emergency descent procedure.
The aircraft conducting the DT579 service from Luanda was a Boeing 737-700, registered D2-TBG. This is an 18.3 year old narrowbody aircraft belonging to the carrier TAAG Angola Airlines. It has been in operational service with the airline since its initial delivery from the factory in September 2006.
