Switzerland Comes to Nova Scotia with New Edelweiss Halifax Route

Halifax Stanfield International Airport will see the launch of Edelweiss Air’s new non-stop A340 service between Halifax and Zurich next summer.

Halifax Stanfield International Airport sees a significant expansion of its transatlantic connectivity with the launch of Edelweiss Air’s new non-stop service between Halifax and Zurich.

Commencing next summer, this twice-weekly route will bridge the Atlantic, offering seamless travel between Canada’s Atlantic provinces and the heart of Europe.

Edelweiss Air, a renowned Swiss airline celebrated for its exceptional service and deep-rooted Swiss heritage, will introduce Nova Scotia to a wider European audience.

As a sister company to Swiss International Air Lines and a member of the Lufthansa Group, Edelweiss brings a wealth of experience and global reach to this new venture.

“We are delighted to welcome Edelweiss Air to Halifax Stanfield International Airport,” said Joyce Carter, President and CEO of the Halifax International Airport Authority.

“This new service is a testament to our airport’s growing appeal as a gateway to Atlantic Canada. We anticipate a surge in tourism, business travel, and economic activity as a result of this exciting development.”

Halifax-Zurich Route


Edelweiss Air will operate the Halifax-Zurich route twice weekly using its Airbus A340-300 aircraft, providing passengers with a comfortable and enjoyable flight experience.

With a flight time of approximately seven hours, travelers can efficiently connect to Switzerland and explore its stunning landscapes, charming cities, and rich cultural heritage.

Beyond Switzerland, Zurich serves as a convenient hub for onward travel to numerous destinations across Europe.

Passengers can seamlessly connect to Edelweiss Air’s extensive network. Alternatively, they can take advantage of the airline’s partnership with Star Alliance members, including Air Canada, for global connectivity.

“Nova Scotia is a captivating region with immense tourism potential. We believe this new route will stimulate demand from both leisure and business travelers. It will contribute to the economic growth of the region.”

Allan MacMaster, Nova Scotia Minister of Communities, Culture, Tourism and Heritage offered comment on the new route. “This new transatlantic connection is a major win for Nova Scotia,” he ventured.

“Europe is a key market for our province. This new route will strengthen our ties with Switzerland while opening up new opportunities for tourism growth.”

With the addition of Edelweiss Air, Halifax Stanfield International Airport solidifies its position as a leading gateway to Atlantic Canada.

The airport now offers non-stop service to seven transatlantic destinations. This network provides passengers with a wide range of options to explore Europe and beyond.
