Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) is set to further boost its long-haul fleet with the addition of five new Airbus A350-900 aircraft. The new additions will bring its total order to ten of the new widebody aircraft.
This strategic investment will further transform the airline’s long-distance travel capabilities, emphasizing sustainability, passenger comfort, and operational efficiency.
A350-900 Delivery Scheduling
The fleet expansion represents a major commitment by the Lufthansa Group to enhance SWISS’s operational capabilities.
The new aircraft will be delivered gradually between summer 2025 and the end of 2031, with each plane featuring the innovative ‘SWISS Senses’ cabin interior that promises to revolutionize passenger experience.
SWISS CEO Jens Fehlinger highlighted the significance of this investment, stating, “These new Airbus A350s are crucial for meeting our customers’ evolving expectations. We’re not just updating our fleet; we’re creating a new benchmark for long-haul travel comfort and sustainability.”
Technology & ‘SWISS Senses’ Cabin
The Airbus A350-900 stands out as a pinnacle of modern aviation technology. Airlines worldwide embrace the Airbus A350-900 for its exceptional fuel efficiency and significantly reduced carbon emissions. The aircraft’s state-of-the-art engines are particularly impressive, cutting noise pollution by more than 50% compared to previous generation aircraft.
Each new aircraft will showcase the ‘SWISS Senses’ cabin interior, a comprehensive approach to passenger comfort that reimagines the long haul travel experience. This innovative design promises to deliver outstanding comfort across all travel classes, incorporating the latest cabin technologies and passenger-centric features.
Strategic Fleet Modernization
The gradual introduction of these aircraft allows SWISS to methodically upgrade its long-haul capabilities. Airbus will deliver the first A350-900 in summer 2025, with subsequent aircraft joining the fleet at carefully planned intervals until the end of 2031.
The airline is currently in the process of determining the specific routes that will benefit from these new aircraft. SWISS planners will carefully select the most appropriate routes to maximize the A350-900’s advanced capabilities.
Summary
This investment signals SWISS’s broader commitment to maintaining a competitive edge in the international long-haul market. The increased long-haul acquisition also supports the Lufthansa Group’s strategic fleet development.
The Airbus A350-900 perfectly encapsulates modern aviation’s dual focus on technological advancement and environmental responsibility.
SWISS is to extend its ‘Green Fares’ to all its long-haul services from 4 December 2024, together with its sister airlines in the Lufthansa Group.
The Green Fare product includes a price component for offsetting the carbon emissions generated by the customer’s air travel. The new long-haul Green Fares supplement SWISS’s existing range of products that are aimed at ensuring more sustainable air travel.
With its superior fuel efficiency, reduced emissions, and advanced cabin design, the new A350 aircraft symbolize the future of sustainable, comfortable long-haul travel.
