A SWISS flight operating from Zurich to Vienna has declared an emergency whilst en route.
SWISS flight LX1578 declared an emergency with transponder code 7700 whilst en route to Vienna. The flight is currently on diversion to Munich.
SWISS flight LX1578, operated by an A220-300, declared the emergency whilst on descent through 10,000 feet. The flight had been in the cruise at FL350 (35,000 feet) just prior.
Flight crew then expedited a direct track to nearby Munich International Airport (MUC). The nature of the emergency prompting the unscheduled diversion is not yet known.

Flight LX1578 has now landed at the diversion airport Munich (MUC), having expedited a descent and diversion earlier this afternoon.
Flight data shows that SWISS flight LX1578 made an on-time departure from Zurich Airport (ZRH) at 12:39 local time today. The flight had set course normally, climbing to flight level FL350 for the easterly service to Vienna International Airport (VIE).
Flight crew then initiated the diversion whilst in transit through Austrian airspace. They transmitted transponder code 7700 at 11:22 UTC with the aircraft established on descent for Munich (MUC).

The aircraft conducting today’s LX1578 to Vienna (VIE) was an Airbus A220-300, registered HB-JCK. This is a 6.4 year old narrowbody aircraft belonging to the carrier SWISS. It has been in service with the airline since its initial delivery in May 2018.
