SWISS Flight Diverts to Hanover Due to Cracked Windshield

A SWISS Airbus A220-100 operating from Zürich to Gothenburg made a diversion to Hanover due to a cracked windshield on 1 August 2024.

Swiss International Airlines flight LX1222, operated by an A220-100 from Zürich Airport (ZRH) was en route in cruising flight when the incident occurred.

Cracked Windshield!: SWISS LX1222 Zurich-Gothenburg

A SWISS Airbus A220-100 operating from Zürich to Gothenburg made a diversion to Hanover due to a cracked windshield on 1 August 2024.

As a result of the cracked outer pane of the aircraft’s main windshield, flight crew elected to make a precautionary diversion to nearby Hanover.

The flight subsequently landed without incident at Hanover Airport (HAJ) approximately 40 minutes after making the diversion.

Flight Details


Flight data shows that SWISS flight LX1222 made a departure from Zürich Airport at 1145 local time. The flight had then set course normally for Gothenburg-Landvetter Airport (GOT), Sweden.

With the aircraft in cruising flight at flight level FL340 (34,000 feet), flight crew initiated the precautionary diversion at approximately 150 miles to the south of Hanover.

The aircraft conducting the LX1222 service to Gothenburg was an Airbus A220-100, registered HB-JBD. This is a 7.8 year old narrowbody aircraft belonging to the carrier Swiss International Airlines.

The aircraft has been in operation with the airline since its initial delivery from the factory in December 2016.
