SWISS A330 To Zurich Makes Emergency Return to New York

Information has emerged this week of a SWISS Airbus A330, operating LX15 to Zurich, having to make an emergency return back to New York JFK.

SWISS flight LX15, which made the emergency return, is a routine scheduled flight between New York & Zurich.

Furthermore, it is understood the aircraft involved in the incident was HB-JHK.

As per data from Planespotters.net, HB-JHK is a 12.7 year old Airbus A330-300 that was delivered to the airline in January 2012.

Of the A330-300 variant, SWISS has 14 of them in their fleet.

Moreover, of that 14, all but one are in active service, with an average fleet age of 13.9 years.

As well as the A330-300, the airline has the following other aircraft in their fleet:

– 30 Airbus A220s
– 18 Airbus A320s.
– 10 Airbus A321s.
– 4 Airbus A340s.
– 12 Boeing 777s.

SWISS flight LX15, which made an emergency return departed New York at 2116 local time on August 2.

Furthermore, as the aircraft was proceeding east to Zurich, they had to stop their climb and enter holds.

After nearly two hours in the air, the aircraft made a safe landing back into JFK at 2312 local time.

Moreover, as per The Aviation Herald, it is understood the aircraft suffered a problem with the landing gear on departure.

Data from RadarBox.com highlights that HB-JHK, the SWISS Airbus A330 involved in the emergency return incident in New York returned to service the next day.

Furthermore, the aircraft operated the LX15 rotation without incident on August 3, landing safely back into Zurich from JFK at 1030 local time on August 4.

Since then, the aircraft has been in normal commercial operation, with no additional issues revealed.
