STARLUX Doubles its Order of Airbus A350F Freighters

Taiwanese premium carrier STARLUX has doubled its order of Airbus A350F widebody freighters, bringing its total commitment to 10 aircraft.

Taiwan’s rapidly expanding premium airline, STARLUX Airlines, has significantly bolstered its cargo ambitions by doubling its order for the Airbus A350F freighter.

The airline has placed a firm order for an additional five of the all-new aircraft, bringing its total commitment to ten.

This strategic move positions STARLUX in the burgeoning global air cargo market. It will leverage the widebody A350F’s cutting-edge technology and efficiency to capitalize on the growing market demand.  

Cargo Market Becomes a STARLUX Cornerstone


“The cargo market is poised to become a cornerstone of our business strategy. We believe Taiwan’s strategic geographic location will provide a significant competitive advantage,” emphasized Glenn Chai, CEO of STARLUX Airlines.

“The A350F emerges as the ideal choice for our fleet. It offers a compelling combination of payload capacity and range comparable to previous-generation freighters. It achieves substantial reductions in fuel consumption and carbon emissions.”

This order marks a significant endorsement of the A350F by STARLUX, solidifying its commitment to an all-Airbus fleet.

Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Airbus EVP Sales Commercial Aircraft gave comment on the increased order. “We express our sincere gratitude to STARLUX Airlines for their unwavering trust in Airbus and our products,” he said.

“The A350F will seamlessly integrate into the airline’s modern fleet. It maximizes operational synergies and benefiting from the exceptional commonality across Airbus aircraft. This repeat order from a dynamic and fast-growing airline further solidifies the A350F’s position as the future of heavy lift air cargo.”

As of the end of November 2024, the cutting edge A350 Family of widebody aircraft has seen broad uptake. It has gained 1,345 firm orders from 61 customers worldwide.

This impressive order book includes 55 orders for the A350F from 10 leading cargo carriers. This highlights the strong market demand for this advanced freighter aircraft.

STARLUX Current Fleet


STARLUX Airlines currently operates a diverse fleet of 26 Airbus aircraft. This includes the fuel efficient A321neo, the versatile A330neo, and the long haul capable A350-900.

The addition of ten A350F freighters will significantly enhance the airline’s cargo capabilities. It will enable the carrier to serve key global markets with speed and efficiency.  

A350 Performance and Configuration


The A350F, currently under development, is engineered to deliver exceptional performance. It boasts a maximum payload capacity of 111 tonnes and an impressive range of 4,700 nautical miles (8,700 kilometers).

The advanced Rolls-Royce Trent XWB-97 engines power the aircraft, enabling a remarkable reduction in fuel consumption and carbon emissions. It achieves a saving of up to 40% compared to previous generation freighters with similar payload range capabilities.

The A350F incorporates several innovative features that maximize its efficiency and operational flexibility. It features the largest main deck cargo door in the industry, ensuring seamless loading and unloading of cargo.

Airbus has optimized the aircraft fuselage length and capacity to accommodate industry standard pallets and containers, streamlining cargo handling operations. It has constructed over 70% of the airframe from advanced materials, resulting in a 46 tonne lighter takeoff weight compared to competing freighter derivatives.

Notably, the A350F is the only freighter aircraft that will fully comply with the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) enhanced CO₂ emissions standards, which are set to come into effect in 2027.
