Starflyer A320 Returns to Kitakyushu  After Hydraulic Failure

A Starflyer A320-200 operating flight 7G76 to Tokyo Haneda (HND) made a precautionary return to Kitakyushu following a hydraulic failure on 21 June

A Starflyer A320-200 operating from Kitakyushu to Tokyo made a precautionary return to the origin airport following a hydraulic failure on 21 June 2024.

Starflyer flight 7G76, an Airbus A320-200 operating to Tokyo Haneda airport, had departed from Kitakyushu RWY18.

With the aircraft established on the outbound track to Tokyo, flight crew reported experiencing a hydraulic failure.

Following this the operating crew terminated the climb and initiated a precautionary return to Kitakyushu after a period of holding.

The aircraft made a return landing without incident however manual towing was required to assist the aircraft to clear the active runway.

Flight Details

Flight data shows that flight 7G76 made a departure out of Kitakyushu Airport (KKJ) at 09:23 local time.

The climb was then terminated at FL160 (16,000 feet) shortly after departure. Flight crew then conducted a period of holding to the north-east of the airport, possibly for fuel dumping purposes.

The flight then landed just over one hour after its initial departure. The aircraft was subsequently returned to active service some hours after the incident.

The aircraft conducting the 7G76 regional service to Tokyo Haneda airport (HND) was an Airbus A320-200, registered JA05MC. This is a 13.5 year old narrowbody aircraft belonging to the Japanese carrier Starflyer.

It has been in operational service with the airline since its initial delivery in January 2011.

Starflyer is a Japanese airline headquartered in Kitakyushu, Fukuoka Prefecture. It is a self-described “hybrid airline” that offers a higher level of service than low-cost carriers but keeps operating costs lower than full-service legacy carriers.
