Earlier this week, a United Airlines flight had to make an emergency landing in Orlando following a spitting and biting incident.
Information has been released pertinent to this incident, which we will get into in this article.

United Airlines Flight UA762 – Miami to Newark: Orlando Emergency Landing…
United Airlines flight UA762, which suffered the emergency landing in Orlando, is a routine scheduled flight between Miami and Newark.
Moreover, the aircraft involved in the incident is N68823.
As per data from Planespotters.net, N68823 is a 10.2 year old Boeing 737-900ER that was delivered to the airline in May 2014.
Of the 737-900ER variant, United Airlines has 136 of them in their fleet.
Within that 136, 121 are in active service and 15 are parked, with an average fleet age of 11.6 years.
Furthermore, as well as the 737-900ER, the mainline carrier has the following aircraft in their fleet:
- 81 Airbus A319s.
- 85 Airbus A320s.
- 12 Airbus A321 Family aircraft.
- 40 Boeing 737-700s.
- 141 Boeing 737-800s.
- 91 Boeing 737 MAX 8s.
- 80 Boeing 737 MAX 9s.
- 61 Boeing 757 Family aircraft.
- 53 Boeing 767 Family aircraft.
- 96 Boeing 777 Family aircraft.
- 71 Boeing 787 Family aircraft.
United Airlines flight UA762, which made the emergency landing in Orlando, departed Miami at 1738 local time on July 9 and initially climbed out towards Newark.
During the flight, a passenger started biting a flight attendant’s shirt and spitting at passengers.
This resulted in her restraint, and a decision made to divert.
As you can see from the flight data, the aircraft made a quick descent into the Floridian airport, landing safely without further incident at 1912 local time.
Furthermore, after landing, the aircraft was met by law enforcement, and the passenger was removed from the plane.
Flight Cancelled As A Result…
Following this incident of a passenger biting and spitting others and forcing an emergency landing, United Airlines took the decision to cancel UA762 Miami-Newark in Orlando.
In a statement, the airline said the following on the incident:
“Our flight attendants worked to de-escalate the situation and protect other customers and after landing in Orlando, law enforcement met the flight, and the passenger was removed”.
“We’re grateful to our team for their professionalism and for looking out for the safety of our customers and their fellow United employees.”
The erratic passenger was taken to hospital for a medical evaluation, with no indication of whether an arrest has been made.
