Spirit Airlines Flight Suffers Smoke in the Cabin During Fort Lauderdale Arrival

Last Sunday, a Spirit Airlines flight from Charlotte suffered smoke in the cabin during it's arrival into Fort Lauderdale.

Last Sunday, a Spirit Airlines flight from Charlotte suffered smoke in the cabin during it’s arrival into Fort Lauderdale.

Information has been released pertinent to the incident at hand, which we will get into in this article.

Without further ado, let’s get into it…

Spirit Airlines Flight NK1223 – Charlotte to Fort Lauderdale…


Last Sunday, a Spirit Airlines flight from Charlotte suffered smoke in the cabin during it's arrival into Fort Lauderdale.

Spirit Airlines flight NK1223, which suffered smoke in the cabin, is a routine scheduled flight between Charlotte & Fort Lauderdale.

Furthermore, the aircraft involved in the incident was understood to be N660NK.

As per data from Planespotters.net, N660NK is a 8.9 year old Airbus A321ceo that was delivered to the airline in October 2015.

Of the A321ceo variant, Spirit Airlines has 30 of them in their fleet.

Moreover, of that 30, all of them are in active service, with an average fleet age of 7.7 years.

As well as the A321ceo, the airline has the following other aircraft in their mainline fleet:

  • 8 Airbus A319s.
  • 155 Airbus A320s.
  • 19 Airbus A321neos.

Spirit Airlines flight NK1223 departed Charlotte at 0652 local time on August 25, and tracked south to Fort Lauderdale.

Everything was normal in the flight until the arrival into the Floridian airport.

As per The Aviation Herald, it is understood that smoke in the cabin occurred during the descent into the airport.

Despite this, the aircraft was able to continue to destination, and landed without further incident at 0840 local time.

Aircraft Returned to Service The Same Day…

Following the incident involving smoke in the cabin on Spirit Airlines flight NK1223 Charlotte-Fort Lauderdale, N660NK only remained on the ground for four hours.

It appears as if the fixes, if any, were relatively quick, and the aircraft operated the following flights on August 25 after the incident:

  • NK2202 – Fort Lauderdale to Atlanta.
  • NK2203 – Atlanta to Fort Lauderdale.
  • NK271 – Fort Lauderdale to Indianapolis.
  • NK272 – Indianapolis to Fort Lauderdale.

Overall, no further issues were reported with the aircraft following the incident.
