A Southwest Airlines Boeing 737-700 arriving from Atlanta, GA collided with runway debris on landing at Fort Myers, FL on 17 January 2025.
Southwest Airlines flight WN3009, operated by a Boeing 737-700, was conducting an approach to runway 06 Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW). The flight was a scheduled service arriving from Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL).

During the subsequent landing roll on a runway 06, the aircraft collided with foreign object debris on the active runway.
Following the incident, the aircraft was able to clear the active runway and taxied to the apron hardstanding area.
According to the Aviation Herald, flight crew advised ATC of the presence of vultures to the left of the runway 06 centreline in the clear area.

A subsequent FAA report confirmed the landing incident, and subsequent damage to the aircraft. “Aircraft struck debris on landing and post flight inspection revealed damage to main landing gear and fuselage, Fort Myers FL.”
The aircraft was able to resume operational service after a period of just under six hours on the ground at Southwest Florida International Airport.
Flight data shows that flight WN3009 had made an on-time departure out of Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport at 1040 local time on 17 January.
Following departure, the flight had proceeded normally, climbing to flight level FL370 for the southerly service to Florida.
Descent and approach procedures were similarly conducted normally to runway 06 at the destination airport.

The aircraft conducting the WN3009 service from Atlanta was a Boeing 737-700, registered N236WN. This is an 18.8 year old narrowbody aircraft belonging to the carrier Southwest Airlines.
It has been in operational service with the airline since its initial delivery from the factory in April 2006.
