A Smartlynx Estonia Airbus A320-200 operating the service on behalf of Indigo from Kolkata to Bangalore made a precautionary return to Kolkata after shutting an engine down on 30 August 2024.
Operating as flight 6E573 to Bangalore Kempegowda International Airport, the Smartlynx A320-200 and made a departure from RWY19L Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport (CCU).

During the initial climb procedure, flight crew reported a failure of the aircraft’s left-hand engine. The crew discontinued the climb and conducted a precautionary engine shutdown before making a return to the origin airport.
The aircraft was able to make a landing without incident just under 30 minutes after its initial departure. According to the online source Aviation Herald, a passenger had reported observing streaks of flame emitting from the failed engine.
A replacement aircraft was mustered by the controlling airline IndiGo to complete the onwards scheduled service to Bangalore.

Flight data shows that flight 6E573 you had made in on-time departure out of Kolkata (CCU) at 20 to 11 local time on 30 August. Following the departure from RWY19L, flight crew discontinued the climb at 4000 feet before negotiating a direct return.
The flight did not declare a formal emergency and continued with a precautionary return under normal operating procedures.
The aircraft conducting the 6E573 service on behalf of IndiGo was an Airbus A320-200, registered ES-SAG. This is an 11.7 year old narrowbody aircraft belonging to the carrier Smartlynx Estonia, under lease to Indigo.
It has been under operating lease to the Indian airline since November 2023.
