SmartLynx Airlines, a key player in the global ACMI, cargo, and charter aviation sector, is embarking on a strategic fleet restructuring.

The company, part of the Avia Solutions Group, plans to transition to a single-type aircraft operation by mid-2025. This move aims to enhance efficiency and solidify its long-term growth trajectory.

The decision follows a period of rapid expansion. Over the past five years, SmartLynx has dramatically increased its fleet, growing from 12 to nearly 70 aircraft.

This expansion addressed the surging demand for additional aviation capacity. “We successfully navigated the challenges of the pandemic and the disruptions caused by the war in Ukraine,” stated Edvinas Demenius, CEO of SmartLynx Airlines.

“To sustain our growth and align with our group’s strategic goals, we believe now is the right time to make decisions that will further strengthen the company in the long term.”

Record Growth in 2024

SmartLynx reported a record-breaking 2024, operating over 68,000 flights with a fleet of 68 aircraft. Notably, passenger numbers surpassed 10 million for the first time in the company’s history.

Looking ahead, SmartLynx will concentrate on the Airbus aircraft family, specifically the A320 and A321 models. The company will also adjust its A321F freighter operations.

“The industry we operate makes us directly reliant on market demand,” explained Edvinas Demenius. “Our operations are shaped by industry needs, requiring continuous adaptation to stay aligned with market dynamics.”

This flexibility is crucial for SmartLynx, allowing it to respond effectively to evolving market conditions.

Gradual Transition to Single-Fleet Type

The transition to a single-type fleet will be implemented gradually, with completion expected by mid-2025. This process will involve partial asset reallocation within the Avia Solutions Group to maximize operational efficiency.

By focusing on a unified fleet, SmartLynx aims to simplify maintenance, streamline crew training, and optimize resource allocation.

This strategic shift positions the airline for continued success in the dynamic aviation landscape.
