Smart Aviation, a leading global aircraft charter specialist, has announced a new ACMI (Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance, and Insurance) charter partnership for carrier Air Arabia Maroc.
This collaboration brings together Air Arabia Maroc, a prominent low-cost carrier, and Getjet Airlines, a specialist charter airline operator.
Air Arabia Maroc ACMI requirement
The partnership was born out of necessity when Air Arabia Maroc faced the growing delivery challenges. Air Arabia Maroc is a key player in the Air Arabia group, and currently the largest low-cost carrier in the Middle East and North Africa.
Due to the late delivery of an aircraft, the airline reached out to Smart Aviation for urgent support last week.
After negotiations, the firm successfully secured a Latvia-registered Airbus A320 from Getjet Airlines, one of Smart Aviation’s airline partners. Current demand for ACMI aircraft deployment is currently high, due to the market situation and the busy peak travel season.
The first charter flight in this ACMI operation took off from Riga on Thursday, August 1, 2024, marking the beginning of this latest partnership.
Understanding ACMI Operations
ACMI, which stands for Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance, and Insurance, is a comprehensive leasing arrangement in the aviation industry.
This type of operation allows airlines to quickly scale their capacity or cover unexpected gaps in their fleet. In an ACMI agreement:
- The lessor provides the aircraft
- Supplies the crew
- Handles all maintenance requirements
- Covers the insurance costs
This arrangement is particularly beneficial for airlines facing temporary capacity issues or exploring new routes without committing to long-term investments.
Continuity and Management
The ACMI operation will remain in effect until Air Arabia Maroc receives its delayed aircraft. Throughout this period, Smart Aviation will play a lead role in managing ongoing availability and operations. The will work closely with the stakeholders to ensure smooth execution.
Mark Hawkins, Managing Director of Smart Aviation, shared his thoughts on the partnership. “The market for ACMI is currently very tight, and time was against us.”
“I’m delighted that we secured the perfect option for Air Arabia Maroc. Getjet Airlines has been a trusted partner of Smart Aviation since their founding in 2016.”
“We can always rely on them to deliver an efficient and timely service, with well-maintained aircraft and excellent crew. I’m very pleased that the ACMI operation is running smoothly.”
