Scoot, Singapore Airlines’ budget subsidiary, is set to welcome two new Embraer E190-E2 aircraft in late 2024. The third aircraft, named “Jalan-Jalan,” arrives in September, followed by “Travel Kaki” in October.
These additions pave the way for Scoot’s expansion into two fresh Southeast Asian destinations. Kertajati (Greater Bandung) in Indonesia will see twice-weekly flights from September 28. Meanwhile, Malacca, Malaysia, will enjoy five weekly connections starting October 23.
New Aircraft and Destinations
Scoot, the low-cost subsidiary of Singapore Airlines (SIA), is set to receive two additional Embraer E190-E2 aircraft. Deliveries ate planned for the latter half of 2024, bringing its total E190-E2 fleet to four.
The third E190-E2, aptly named “Jalan-Jalan” (a Malay phrase meaning “to go for a walk” or “to travel”), is scheduled to arrive in Singapore in September 2024.
Its counterpart, “Travel Kaki” (Singaporean slang for “travel buddy”), will join the fleet in October. These names reflect Scoot’s playful branding and appeal to its target market of adventure-seeking travelers.
With these new additions, Scoot is launching services to two exciting Southeast Asian destinations:
Kertajati, Indonesia
Starting September 28, 2024, Scoot will operate twice-weekly flights to this emerging destination in West Java. Kertajati serves as a gateway to Greater Bandung and offers nature enthusiasts access to lush forests, natural waterfalls, and diverse wildlife.
Malacca, Malaysia
From October 23, 2024, travelers can enjoy five weekly flights to this UNESCO World Heritage city. Malacca is renowned for its rich Peranakan heritage, offering visitors a blend of historical architecture, vibrant night markets, and authentic Nonya cuisine.
Enhanced Route Connectivity
The introduction of these E190-E2 aircraft allows Scoot to not only expand its destination portfolio but also enhance its existing routes:
Pekanbau, Indonesia will see an increase in service with two additional weekly E190-E2 flights, complementing the existing thrice-weekly A320 operations.
Balikpapan and Makassar in Indonesia will benefit from increased frequencies, moving from three to four times weekly starting October 2024.
Davao, Philippines will see an uptick from seven to nine weekly flights beginning November 2024.
Vientiane, Laos will gain an extra weekly flight, increasing to four times weekly from December 2024.
This expansion follows the recent announcement of a new route to Subang, Malaysia, set to commence on September 1, 2024. Subang’s proximity to Kuala Lumpur (just 28 kilometers) provides travelers with a convenient alternative gateway to the Malaysian capital.
Network Growth and Regional Impact
By the end of 2024, Scoot’s network will encompass an impressive 72 destinations. The airline’s Southeast Asian presence will be particularly strong, with:
– 78 weekly flights to Indonesia
– 115 weekly flights to Malaysia
– 37 weekly flights to the Philippines
– 4 weekly flights to Laos
This extensive network not only provides more direct connections for travelers to non-metro cities across Southeast Asia but also reinforces Singapore’s status as a pivotal regional air hub.
Scoot Executive Comments
Leslie Thng, Scoot’s Chief Executive Officer, offered comment about the Embraer E190 fleet and network expansion. “We are excited to announce the addition of another two new destinations to our growing network – Kertajati in Indonesia and Malacca in Malaysia.”
“Since the launch of our E190-E2 aircraft in May, we continue to see strong demand for our flights, which have connected many of our customers to and from our various destinations across Southeast Asia.”
Thng added, “We remain confident in the demand for air travel and invite our customers to ‘Jalan-Jalan’ and explore new destinations with their ‘Travel Kakis,’ immerse themselves in local cultures and create more memorable travel experiences with us.”
By tapping into emerging markets and enhancing connectivity to established destinations, Scoot is positioning to capture the growing demand for regional air travel as the industry continues its post-pandemic recovery.
