Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) is gearing up for a landmark summer in 2025, announcing its most extensive traffic program to date.
This ambitious expansion, centered around Copenhagen Airport as its key global hub, promises to significantly enhance travel options for passengers across Scandinavia and the world.
With a total of 278 routes planned, SAS is solidifying its position as a vital connector for Northern Europe.
A Surge in International Reach
The summer 2025 schedule will add destinations as well as increasing capacity. SAS is offering a staggering 23 million seats, a substantial 2.2 million increase compared to the previous year.
This growth highlights the airline’s commitment to meeting the rising demand for travel.
New destinations are a key feature of this expansion. Travelers can look forward to direct flights to exciting cities like Madrid, Budapest, Krakow, Lyon, Wroclaw, and Nuuk in Greenland.
While Copenhagen remains the primary departure point, Oslo, Stockholm, and other Scandinavian cities will also benefit from enhanced connections.
Intercontinental Expansion and Regional Growth
SAS is also broadening its intercontinental reach. Passengers can now enjoy new routes to Seoul, with four weekly flights, Seattle, with five weekly flights, and Beirut, with three departures from Copenhagen and two from Stockholm.
Stockholm itself will gain new direct flights to Reykjavík and Bodø, providing further Nordic connectivity.
Oslo will see daily flights to New York (JFK) and weekly flights to the popular Greek island of Rhodes. Additionally, Bergen will introduce two weekly flights to Malaga, offering a taste of the Spanish sun.

Copenhagen: A Central Hub
This strategic expansion reinforces Copenhagen Airport’s role as a global hub for seamless international travel.
Its location makes it ideal for passengers traveling within Northern Europe or connecting to destinations worldwide. The efficiency and convenience of Copenhagen Airport are central to SAS’s plan.
Strengthening Domestic Connections in Sweden
SAS is also investing heavily in its Swedish domestic network. A 54% increase in flights demonstrates the airline’s commitment to providing comprehensive connectivity within Sweden.
This growth includes the launch of new routes to Halmstad and Kalmar earlier this year, fulfilling plans announced in late 2024. SAS is now the leading carrier in Sweden, offering greater flexibility and a wider range of travel options.

Increased Flight Frequencies
To further improve connectivity via Copenhagen Airport, SAS is increasing flight frequencies on several popular routes. Destinations such as Toronto, Berlin, Florence, and Prague will see more frequent services. This enhancement will create a 70% increase in connection opportunities across the 122 destinations served from the Copenhagen hub.
Henrik Winell, Vice President Network at SAS, emphasizes the significance of this expansion. “This summer program represents an important milestone for SAS. We embark on our largest summer expansion ever, introducing 28 new routes and significantly increasing capacity to 23 million seats.”
“By broadening our network and optimizing travel options, we will provide our customers with unparalleled access to destinations across Europe, North America, Asia, and the Middle East. Meanwhile we continue to consolidate Copenhagen’s role as a European world-class travel hub.”
Conclusion
In conclusion, SAS’s summer 2025 program marks a significant step forward in enhancing connectivity across Scandinavia and beyond.
The record summer season sees new routes, increased flight frequencies, and a focus on Copenhagen Airport as a global hub.
