A transformative shift in Swedish air travel launched on 2 January 2025, as SAS Scandinavian Airlines dramatically enhanced its regional route network.

The move streamlines travel by centralizing domestic flights at a single Stockholm airport, enabling passengers to access both domestic and international flights from one location.

SAS and Stockholm Arlanda Airport have joined forces to deliver seamless travel experiences for all passengers.

Collaboration with Braathens Regional Airways

The expansion stems from a strategic collaboration between SAS and Braathens Regional Airways AB (BRA). Starting January 2025, seven BRA aircraft will progressively join SAS’s Arlanda-based operations, expanding both destinations and flight frequency.

Two fresh routes will take off on 27 January 2025: Arlanda-Kalmar and Arlanda-Halmstad. Additionally, SAS has introduced seasonal winter routes connecting Arlanda-Sälen and Ängelholm/Helsingborg-Sälen.

“Starting the year by strengthening our Swedish domestic network from Arlanda marks an exciting milestone,” shares SAS President & CEO Anko van der Werff.

“Our BRA partnership will enhance travel accessibility throughout Sweden for both domestic and international travelers. We’re proud to foster economic growth while strengthening Sweden’s global connections.”

To accommodate growing passenger numbers, SAS and Swedavia are working together to ensure efficient travel experiences for both terminal and connecting passengers.

Swedavia’s President & CEO Jonas Abrahamsson comments, “We’re delighted to welcome SAS’s expanded domestic service to Arlanda.”

“Consolidating domestic flights at Sweden’s primary airport enhances national connectivity, offering easier access to nearly 150 direct international destinations from Stockholm Arlanda Airport.”

“Our recent investments, including a state-of-the-art security checkpoint and the ongoing development of Terminal 5’s marketplace, demonstrate our commitment to passenger satisfaction. Airport improvements continue to progress.”

SAS is also developing an additional lounge near the security checkpoint, aiming to provide convenient lounge access regardless of departure gate location. The new facility is scheduled to open in early 2025.
