SAS Flight SK1583 Stockholm-Malaga Declares Emergency

SAS flight SK1583, an A320-200 en route to Malaga from Stockholm, has declared an emergency and is diverting to Paris.

An SAS flight en route to Malaga from Stockholm has declared an emergency in the last few moments.

SAS flight SK1583, operated by an Airbus A320-200, declared an emergency with transponder code 7700, and appears to be diverting to Paris.

Having declared a general emergency from the cruise, flight SK1583 has expedited a diversion to Paris. The flight has now reverted to normal squawk code but is continuing the diversion.

07:58 UTC: Approach to Paris (CDG)


SAS flight SK1583 has continued its approach to Paris Charles De Gaulle, and is currently below 10,000 feet. the flight is continuing on a normal transponder code. The nature of the emergency prompting the earlier declaration and diversion is not yet known.

08:03 UTC: Final Approach to Paris (CDG)


Flight SK1583 now establishing on final approach for runway 27 Paris (CDG). Weather is visual conditions (VFR) for the flight’s arrival this morning.

08:10 UTC: Landed Paris (CDG)


Having declared a general emergency earlier this morning, SAS flight SK1583 has now landed runway 26 Paris Charles De Gaulle Airport.

SAS flight SK1583 originally declared the emergency whilst passing though French airspace, en route to Malaga Airport (AGP). Flight crew squawked emergency transponder code 7700 at 07:41 UTC.

The flight then left cruising FL370, and flight crew carried out a backtrack and diversion to Paris Charles De Gaulle Airport. The flight subsequently reverted to a normal transponder code at 07:48 UTC, as it continued descent through FL200.

From there, flight crew continued with the diversion to Paris (CDG).

The aircraft conducting the SK1583 rotation from Stockholm Arlanda Airport (ARN) was an Airbus A320neo, registered EI-SIM. This is a 3.0 year old narrowbody aircraft belonging to the carrier SAS.
