Ryanair has announced its largest-ever summer schedule for Sarajevo, featuring over 50 weekly flights across 11 routes.
The expanded network includes five new destinations: Baden-Baden, Düsseldorf, Girona, Paris, and Stockholm, marking a significant boost in the airline’s commitment to the Bosnian market.
The ambitious Summer 2025 schedule promises to deliver unprecedented growth for Sarajevo. Passenger numbers are projected to reach 400,000 annually, marking a dramatic 170% increase compared to 2024.
The expansion will support more than 300 local jobs and connect Sarajevo with eight different countries, strengthening the region’s position as a key European transport hub.
Sarajevo Reduced Access Costs
This remarkable growth stems from strategic reduced access costs implemented by both Sarajevo Airport and the Sarajevo Canton.
These progressive policies have directly influenced Ryanair’s decision to double its traffic in the region, boosting year-round connectivity, tourism, and economic development. The initiative demonstrates how competitive pricing can drive substantial market growth and regional development.
Across Europe, regions and airports increasingly recognize that competitive access costs serve as a crucial catalyst for inbound investment.
This strategy becomes particularly important given current challenges in the aviation industry, including aircraft delivery delays and incomplete market recovery post-Covid.
For Sarajevo Airport to maintain its attractiveness for further Ryanair investment, including potential based aircraft, the carrier says it must remain competitive with other markets. This includes Albania, Hungary, Italy, and Sweden. These countries that are actively eliminating aviation taxes and reducing access costs to secure valuable traffic growth.

Ryanair Urges Against Tax Reintroduction
In light of these developments, Ryanair is urging the Government of Bosnia and Herzegovina to reconsider its decision to reintroduce aviation taxes.
This policy change would support continued growth in the country’s aviation and tourism sectors while ensuring citizens maintain access to Europe’s lowest fares. This in turn would foster both domestic and international travel opportunities.
To celebrate the launch of its expanded schedule and demonstrate its commitment to affordable travel, Ryanair has announced a three-day seat sale with fares starting from €29.99, available exclusively through the airline website.
Ryanair CCO Comments
Speaking from Sarajevo, Jason McGuinness, Ryanair’s Chief Commercial Officer, emphasized the importance of maintaining competitive access costs to attract investment, particularly as European aviation capacity approaches pre-Covid levels.
He noted that while the market remains underserved, especially for cities with high tourism potential like Sarajevo, ongoing capacity constraints make competitive pricing crucial for sustainable growth and development.

Sarajevo International Airport Perspective
Sanin Ramezić, Sarajevo International Airport’s Director, expressed enthusiasm about the continued partnership with Europe’s largest low-cost airline.
He highlighted how the new routes would enhance connectivity between Sarajevo and key European destinations, fostering increased tourism, business cooperation, and cultural exchange.
The expansion represents a significant step forward in the airport’s strategic development plans and its mission to improve international accessibility.
Looking ahead, Ramezić shared his optimism about breaking records and achieving outstanding results in the coming year, with Ryanair playing a crucial role in these ambitions.
The partnership between Sarajevo International Airport and Ryanair promises potential for growth and development in Bosnia and Herzegovina’s aviation sector. It heralds increased opportunities for both leisure and business travelers while contributing to the region’s economic prosperity.
