Earlier this week, a Ryanair flight from Sarajevo suffered an engine fire indication after landing into Gothenburg Airport, Sweden.
Information has been released pertinent to this incident, which we will get into in this article.
Without further ado, let’s get into it…
Ryanair Flight FR3697 – Sarajevo to Gothenburg…
Ryanair flight FR3697, which suffered the engine fire indication, is a routine scheduled flight between Sarajevo & Gothenburg.
Also, the aircraft involved in the incident was EI-EVL.
As per data from Planespotters.net, EI-EVL is a 12.3 year old Boeing 737-800 that was delivered to the Irish subsidiary in March 2012.
Of the 737-800 variant, mainline Ryanair has 205 of them in their fleet.
Within that 205, all of them are in active service, and have an average fleet age of 14.7 years.
Furthermore, in the entire Holdings Group, they have 594 aircraft in their fleet, which belong to the following subsidiaries:
- Buzz
- Lauda Europe
- Malta Air
- Ryanair
- Ryanair UK.
FR3697 departed Sarajevo at 0855 local time on July 2 and tracked north towards Gothenburg.
Everything was normal in the flight, even up to the landing. It was after the landing where problems started arising.
No Traces of Fire Following Engine Indication…
As per The Aviation Herald, after landing, Ryanair flight FR3697 Sarajevo-Gothenburg received an engine fire indication.
Furthermore, it is understood the crew asked the air traffic controllers whether they could see a fire or not.
They replied saying they may see something on the right hand engine, which resulted in a shutdown of that engine.
From there, emergency services were deployed to the aircraft, but found no indication a fire had taken place.
Following that, the aircraft was cleared to vacate the runway and taxi to the gate to disembark passengers.
Ryanair Statement
Ryanair confirmed that the matter was a minor technical issue. Emergency actions were carried out as an extra safety precaution.
“This flight from Sarajevo to Gothenburg (2 July) experienced a minor technical issue with the aircraft. The aircraft landed normally, passengers disembarked and the aircraft was inspected by engineers.”
Aircraft Grounded For 12 Hours Following the Incident…
Data from RadarBox shows that EI-EVL, the Ryanair Boeing 737-800 involved in the incident on FR3697 Sarajevo-Gothenburg was grounded for around 12 hours following the engine fire indication.
It eventually operated the FR965 service to London Stansted, which departed over four hours late.
From there, it night-stopped in Stansted, and has operated the following flights since the incident:
- FR2352 – London Stansted to Cologne.
- FR2353 – Cologne to London Stansted.
- FR6080 – London Stansted to Kalamata.
- FR6081 – Kalamata to London Stansted.
- FR4189 – London Stansted to Bergamo.
- FR4188 – Bergamo to London Stansted.
No other issues have been reported with the aircraft following the incident in Gothenburg.
