Ryanair Flight Milan-Manchester Declares Emergency, Diverts to London

A Ryanair flight operating from Milan to Manchester declared an emergency before diverting to London on 1 January 2025.

Ryanair flight FR6817, operated by a Boeing 737-800, was conducting a regular scheduled service from Milan Malpensa International Airport (MXP).

The flight was en route to the destination Manchester Airport (MAN). Shortly after the flight crossed the English coast on track for Manchester, flight crew declared an emergency.

Transponder code 7700 was squawked, and a diversion to nearby London Stansted Airport (STN) was negotiated.

According to the online source Flight Emergency, the cause of the emergency declaration was an electrical fault. A direct track to London Stansted was carried out and the flight landed without further incident.

Flight Details


Flight data shows that flight FR6817 had conducted an on-time departure out of Milan Malpensa International Airport. The flight shows a departure time of 1252 local time on 1 December 2025.

Following its departure, the flight had set course normally for the United Kingdom, climbing to flight level FL380 (38,000 feet).

Flight crew squawked the emergency transponder code 7700 at 1324 UTC, whilst in cruising flight over English airspace.

A descent and direct track to London Stansted airport was then carried out.

The aircraft conducting the FR6817 rotation from Milan was a Boeing 737-800, registered 9H-QFB. This is a 17.3 year old narrowbody aircraft operated by the Ryanair subsidiary carrier Malta Air.

It has been in operational service with Malta Air since November 2023. Prior to its current deployment, it was operated by parent carrier Ryanair since its initial delivery from the factory in September 2007.
