Low-cost airline Ryanair has announced that its low-fare flights are now bookable through Travelfusion’s network of online travel agencies (OTAs). This follows the company’s “Approved OTA Aggregator” partnership announcement last month.
OTAs partnering with Travelfusion can now offer Ryanair flights to their customers without the need for a direct connection, providing a similar experience to Ryanair’s direct “Approved OTA” partners.
New Travelfusion OTA Agreement
Key benefits for OTAs partnering with Travelfusion include:
- Faster Time to Market: Gain a competitive edge by quickly offering Ryanair flights.
- Dedicated Tech Support: Benefit from Travelfusion’s direct, high-quality support.
- Ryanair Partnership Benefits: Enjoy the advantages of the airline’s “Approved OTA” program without the complexities of a direct connection.
This integration marks another step for Ryanair in its recent grapples with the OTA industry. It allows a wider range of OTAs to access Ryanair flights for their customers, providing a convenient and efficient booking experience with minimal resource requirements and added tech support.
As Ryanair’s CMO, Dara Brady, stated, “We’re excited to announce the launch of our ‘Approved OTA Aggregator’ partnership with Travelfusion. This agreement enables Travelfusion’s network of OTAs to offer Ryanair flights to their customers, ensuring full price transparency.”
“This is a fantastic opportunity for OTAs seeking to sell Ryanair flights without the need for a direct connection. The integration of Ryanair’s and Travelfusion’s systems provides a streamlined and efficient solution, minimizing resource requirements while offering reliable tech support.”
Ryanair’s Tensions with OTA Providers
Ryanair has a complex relationship with online travel agencies (OTAs). While OTAs can be a valuable channel for distributing flights, they have also caused significant challenges for the airline. This year has seen the low-cost carrier take issue with a number of perceived problems with online travel providers.
Price Parity and Ancillary Sales: Ryanair has been particularly vocal about ensuring price parity between its own website and OTAs. The airline has often accused OTAs of charging excessive fees or not offering all ancillary services, such as checked baggage or priority boarding.
Misinformation and Customer Complaints: OTAs have sometimes provided incorrect or misleading information to customers, leading to confusion and complaints. the airline has often found itself in the middle of disputes between customers and OTAs.
Competition and Market Power: The airline has expressed concerns about the growing market power of OTAs, which can have significant implications for pricing and distribution. The airline has argued that OTAs can exert undue influence over the travel industry.
Technological Challenges: Integrating with OTAs can be technically complex and time-consuming. Ryanair has faced challenges in ensuring smooth operations and minimizing errors.
Despite these issues, Ryanair has continued to work with some OTAs. The airline has introduced various initiatives to address concerns, such as the “Approved OTA Aggregator” program. However, the relationship between the major low-cost carrier and OTAs remains a dynamic and often contentious one.
