Ryanair has unveiled plans to add three new Mediterranean routes from Bournemouth Airport in 2025, further cementing its position as a key operator at the growing regional hub.
The expansion marks Ryanair’s largest-ever flight schedule from Bournemouth, offering travelers 23 destinations across Europe.
New Routes to Popular Holiday Destinations
The Irish low-cost carrier will launch services to two Greek island destinations and one in the Canary Islands:
- Chania (Crete): Operating twice weekly on Mondays and Saturdays from June 2nd
- Rhodes: Flying Wednesdays and Sundays from June 1st
- Fuerteventura: Scheduled for Tuesdays and Fridays starting April 1st
Tickets for all new routes are already available for purchase through Ryanair’s booking platforms.
Bournemouth Airport’s Growth
The route expansion comes during a period of significant growth for Bournemouth Airport. Recent figures show remarkable progress in passenger numbers.
More than 840,000 travelers passed through the airport between April and October 2024. This represents an increase of over 103,000 compared to the previous summer.
Steve Gill, Bournemouth Airport’s Managing Director, was pleased with the proposed 2025 expansion. “The Greek islands and Canaries are always hugely popular and have been a mainstay of our schedules for many years.”
“The addition of these three twice-weekly destinations with Ryanair, including a brand new route to Chania, means local people will have even more choice and flexibility for their summer breaks.”
Looking Ahead: Million Passenger Milestone
The airport is projecting to surpass one million passengers in 2024, a significant milestone that hasn’t been achieved since 2008. This growth reflects both the airport’s strategic development and increasing demand for regional air travel from the South Coast of England.
Bournemouth Airport serves a catchment area including Dorset, Hampshire, and parts of Wiltshire. The airport has seen substantial investment in recent years to improve facilities and expand services.
The partnership with Ryanair has been instrumental in this growth. The major low-cost airline is now offering connections to popular holiday destinations across Spain, Portugal, Greece, and Ireland.
The expansion of routes continues to strengthen Bournemouth Airport’s position. It is fast becoming a convenient alternative to larger London airports for travelers from the South and South West of England.
