In the last few moments, a Royal Jordanian Boeing 787 flying between Amman & Chicago has declared an emergency over the North Sea.

Descending…

In the last few moments, a Royal Jordanian Boeing 787 flying between Amman & Chicago has declared an emergency over the North Sea.

RJ263 is descending through FL290 at the present moment and is tracking in the direction of Newcastle.

However, it is unclear what the diversion field will be as well as the cause of the emergency currently.

Emergency Aircraft: JY-BAC – The Royal Jordanian 787 Operating the Amman-Chicago Flight

JY-BAC is the aircraft operating the affected Royal Jordanian RJ263 rotation between Amman and Chicago today.

As per Planespotters, JY-BAC is a 9.7 year old Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner that was delivered to the airline in October 2014.

Furthermore, of the 787 variant, the airline has seven of them in their fleet.

Manchester A Possibility for Diversion…

Manchester Airport could be a potential option for diversion at this time. The airline does operate services out of that UK airport and has the facilities and staff to deal with the emergency.

Tracked Over MAN @ FL250…

In the last few moments, a Royal Jordanian Boeing 787 flying between Amman & Chicago has declared an emergency over the North Sea.

Royal Jordanian flight RJ263, which declared an emergency, is tracking past Manchester at FL250. Still unclear whether it’s the diversion field or not.

Descent Commenced Again… London Heathrow?

RJ263 has commenced a descent from FL250 near Birmingham. It does appear to be following a track towards London Heathrow.

Nearing London…

In the last few moments, a Royal Jordanian Boeing 787 flying between Amman & Chicago has declared an emergency over the North Sea.

RJ263 is nearing London as the aircraft continues to descend through FL100. Also, such a track now is making it increasingly likely if not definite that Heathrow will be the airport for the emergency landing.

London Heathrow has been formally confirmed as the diversion field. Emergency landing expected in the next few minutes.

On Final Approach…

Royal Jordanian flight RJ263 is now on final approach for the 27s at London Heathrow. Emergency landing expected imminently.

Furthermore, as per Airframes.IO, the emergency seems to have been caused by a Left AHRU sensor fault.

The AHRU is the Altitude & Heading Reference Units on the 787, which is connected to the ADIRS for navigation and positioning.

TOUCHDOWN!

TOUCHDOWN! RJ263 has appeared to have touched down safely into London Heathrow following it’s emergency broadcast over the North Sea.

We will try and get more information regarding the message we have seen about a Left AHRU sensor fault and confirm this. As soon as we have more information, we will let you know.
