Royal Air Maroc 737 Returns to Tunis After Bird Strike

Royal Air Maroc flight AT573, a Boeing 7370800 bound for Casablanca, made a precautionary return to Tunis following a bird strike after take off on 26 April.

A Royal Air Maroc flight was forced to make a precautionary return to Tunis on 26 April 2024 following a bird strike.

Royal air Maroc flight AT573, a Boeing 737-800 bound for Casablanca, Morocco terminated its departure shortly after takeoff after experiencing a bird strike to one engine.

The aircraft had departed Tunis-Carthage International Airport RWY 11 and was on climb below 5000 feet when the incident occurred.

Flight crew terminated the climb at 4000 feet before entering a holding procedure in the vicinity of the airport. From the hold, flight crew conducted a precautionary return to Tunis airport.

The aircraft subsequently landed without further incident less than 30 minutes after its initial departure.

Flight data shows that flight AT573, bound for Mohammed V International Airport (CMN), maiden on time departure out of Tunisia at 1749 local time.

The climb was then terminated on the extended runway heading and a period of holding was initiated at 4000 feet.

A formal emergency was not declared, and the aircraft made its return under normal flight operating procedures.

The aircraft conducting the AT573 service was a Boeing 737-800, registered CN-RGG. This is a 12.6-year-old narrowbody aircraft belonging to the national carrier Royal Air Maroc. It has been in service with the airline since its original delivery in October 2011.
