Richmond International Airport (RIC), VA welcomes travelers with exciting news! In collaboration with Southwest Airlines, the airport has expanded its summer service offerings.
The new scheduling will see Southwest add nonstop services to Baltimore and Nashville this summer.
New Summer Services at RIC
Effective June 4, 2024, Southwest Airlines has added two new destinations to its Richmond (RIC) route map:
- Twice-daily service to Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI)
This new route offers seamless connectivity to numerous Northeast and Midwest destinations, catering to the travel needs of a broader audience.
- Daily nonstop service to Nashville International Airport (BNA):
Responding to growing customer demand, Southwest Airlines has not only introduced Nashville service but has also upgraded it to a daily offering.
This convenient nonstop option allows travelers to explore the vibrant “Music City” with ease.
“These additions are perfectly timed to support the peak summer travel season,” said Dr. Perry J. Miller, A.A.E., I.A.P., President and CEO of the Capital Region Airport Commission.
“The Baltimore/Washington connection provides tremendous onward travel opportunities, while the daily Nashville service directly addresses a growing desire for more frequent flights to this popular destination.”
Southwest Enhanced Services
Beyond the new routes, Southwest Airlines has enhanced its existing Richmond, VA service with the following options:
- Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL): Once-daily service.
- Chicago Midway International Airport (MDW): Once-daily service.
- Denver International Airport (DEN): Once-daily service.
Nashville Scheduling Advanced
Southwest Airlines’ commitment to the Richmond market is further emphasized by the upgrade to their Nashville service.
Originally planned for a fall launch, the airline has moved the start date to June and increased the frequency from weekly to daily.
This early addition and convenient nonstop option make exploring Nashville even more accessible for Richmond travelers.
Additionally, for those seeking destinations beyond Nashville, Southwest offers extensive connecting opportunities at BNA.
Baltimore/Washington Connection
The Baltimore/Washington route is a strategic addition, re-establishing a connection that hasn’t existed since December 2005.
BWI, typically ranked among Southwest’s top five markets, offers access to over 200 daily flights on average, significantly expanding travel possibilities for Richmond passengers.
