Three years after entering the domestic aviation market, Rex Group celebrates another milestone. A new three-times-weekly service between Adelaide and Perth becomes the carrier’s 12th domestic route.
The airline has announced a scheduled start date of 28 June 2024. The route will be flown with the Embraer E-190 regional jet.
Adelaide-Perth Route
The new service caters to the significant demand on this route. In 2023 alone, nearly 630,000 passengers flew between Adelaide and Perth, highlighting the need for increased connectivity.
To meet this demand, Rex will utilize spacious Embraer E-190 jets operated by National Jet Express (NJE). This is a leading Australian charter operator and member of the Rex Group.
NJE boasts hubs in both Adelaide and Perth, ensuring a seamless travel experience. Economy fares start at a very attractive $249, making this route accessible to a wider range of travelers.
This expansion strengthens Rex’s domestic network, adding Adelaide-Perth to their existing web of routes connecting major cities and popular destinations like Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Hobart, and the Gold Coast.
The announcement comes shortly after Rex unveiled their new Melbourne-Perth route, further solidifying their presence in Western Australia.
Boosting Competition on Sector
NJE Director, Anthony Gibara, emphasizes the positive impact this will have on travelers: “This is fantastic news for both Perth and Adelaide flyers. More competition means more choice, and with Rex, that translates to superior service and reliability.”
Rex plans to increase the frequency of flights once they’ve established themselves on the route, demonstrating their dedication to serving this corridor effectively.
The strategic timing of the launch further enhances the appeal of this new service. The first flights are perfectly aligned with the commencement of school holidays in both Western Australia and South Australia.
This presents a timely solution for families planning getaways during the break. With winter break for South Australian students following just a week later, Rex caters to a broader travel window.
This will ensure families have a convenient and budget-friendly option for their adventures.
Industry leaders have welcomed Rex’s expansion with open arms. South Australia’s Minister for Tourism, Zoe Bettison, sees the new service as a catalyst for tourism growth.
The service will further attract visitors from Western Australia, which is South Australia’s fourth-largest interstate tourism market.
The increased accessibility is expected to entice travelers to explore South Australia’s renowned food and wine scene, stunning natural beauty, and exciting events.
Confidence in Perth Market
Western Australia has also expressed enthusiasm. Rita Saffioti, the state’s Deputy Premier, Minister for Tourism, and Minister for Transport, acknowledges the positive impact on both travel options and tourism.
Perth Airport’s Chief Commercial and Aviation Officer, Kate Holsgrove, views Rex’s expansion as a vote of confidence in the Perth market.
This sentiment is echoed by Adelaide Airport Managing Director, Brenton Cox, who highlights Rex’s long-standing support for the Adelaide market and their commitment to offering travelers more choices on this key domestic route.
Summary
Rex’s entry into the Adelaide-Perth market injects much-needed competition, potentially leading to lower fares and improved service for travelers.
The strategic timing and focus on reliability position Rex as a strong contender on this route. This expansion not only benefits travelers but also stands to invigorate tourism in both South Australia and Western Australia.
As Rex takes flight on this new route, the skies are opening up to a more competitive and traveler-centric future for Australian domestic aviation.
