Qatar Airways is reportedly finalizing a massive order for approximately 100 Boeing widebody aircraft, with an option for 100 more, according to Bloomberg News.
This significant deal, expected to be unveiled during U.S. President Donald Trump’s Middle East visit starting 13 May 2025. The bulk order further underscores the airline’s ambitious growth plans.
The order aims to bolster Qatar Airways’ existing long-haul fleet. This supports its goal to increase annual passenger capacity from 50 million to 80 million. This is targeted to occur over the next five to six years.
Qatar Airways’ History with Boeing
The Doha-based carrier has not publicly specified the aircraft models involved. However, Qatar Airways has a strong history with Boeing widebodies. This includes an existing backlog of 94 Boeing 777X aircraft (60 777-9s and 34 777-8Fs) and a fleet of 787 Dreamliners.
This proposed order aligns with the airline’s strategy to modernize and expand its long-haul capabilities. The measure ensures it remains competitive in the global aviation market.
Earlier in 2024, reports indicated Qatar Airways was negotiating with both Boeing and Airbus for a larger order of 100–200 aircraft.
While those discussions explored a split between the two manufacturers, recent updates suggest Boeing has secured this deal.
The focus on Boeing widebodies reflects Qatar Airways’ confidence in the manufacturer’s ability to deliver high-performance, fuel-efficient aircraft suited for long-haul routes.
