Qatar Airways Resumes Flights to Abha, Marking 11th Saudi Destination

Qatar Airways has resumed flights to Abha International Airport (AHB) in Saudi Arabia, marking its 11th destination served in the Kingdom.

Qatar Airways, the World’s Best Airline for 2024 according to Skytrax, has resumed flights to Abha International Airport (AHB) in Saudi Arabia.

Abha becomes the eleventh Saudi destination served by the carrier. This marks a further milestone in its expanding presence within the Kingdom.

This new route, which commenced on 2 January 2025, will operate two weekly flights. These will connect Abha to Qatar Airways’ extensive global network via its hub at Hamad International Airport. The airport was also named the World’s Best Airport by Skytrax in 2024.  

Increased Saudi Arabian Presence


With the addition of Abha, Qatar Airways now serves 11 destinations within Saudi Arabia. The increased focus underscores its commitment to enhancing connectivity and fostering stronger economic and cultural ties between the two nations.

This strategic move also aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030. The national initiative aims to diversify the economy and promote tourism as a key pillar of growth.  

Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, Qatar Airways’ Group Chief Executive Officer, was pleased to see the resumption of flights to Abha.

“We are delighted to once again connect Abha to our global network,” he stated. “With over 140 weekly flights to Saudi Arabia, we transport more than 36,000 passengers weekly. This demonstrates our unwavering commitment to this vital market.”  

Mr. Majid Khan, CEO of the Air Connectivity Program, emphasized the significance of this partnership for air connectivity within the Kingdom. “This collaboration with Qatar Airways is a crucial step towards improving accessibility. It opens doors for global travelers to experience the unique offerings of Saudi Arabia,” he said.  

Impact on the Aseer Region


Eng. Ali Masrahi, Cluster 2 Airports Company Chief Executive Officer, highlighted the positive impact of this new route on the Aseer region.

“The resumption of direct flights between Doha and Abha will not only facilitate travel for tourists and business travelers. It will also contribute significantly to the region’s economic development,” he explained.

“By improving accessibility to Aseer, renowned for its natural beauty and rich cultural heritage, we aim to boost local economies. it will create new job opportunities, and showcase the diverse attractions of Saudi Arabia to a global audience.”  

Mr. Hatim Al-Harbi, Chief of Tourism at the Aseer Development Authority (ASDA), echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the importance of this route in achieving Aseer’s ambitious tourism goals.

“This marks a pivotal moment in our vision to position Aseer as a year-round tourist destination,” he stated. “By connecting Abha to Qatar Airways’ global network, we are taking a significant step towards welcoming 9.1 million annual visitors to Aseer by 2030.”

Flight Schedule


Departing every Thursday and Saturday:

  • Doha (DOH) to Abha (AHB) – Flight QR1212: Departure 08:35; Arrival 11:15  
  • Abha (AHB) to Doha (DOH) – Flight QR1213: Departure 12:15; Arrival 14:45  

Flight tickets to Abha are now available for booking through the Qatar Airways website, mobile app, and travel agencies.
