Via the new Memorandum of Understanding, Qatar Airways & China Southern Airlines will enhance travel options for passengers.

Furthermore, the deal also outlines a framework for both sides to boost their presence in each country.

Collaboration will also take place in regards to it’s cargo and frequent flyer divisions as well.

As noted by @rschuur_aero on X, this comes as no surprise given the 3.38% stake that the Doha-based airline has in the Chinese carrier.

Commenting on the deal was Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer:

“As part of our robust partnership with China Southern Airlines, Qatar Airways is building on the success of the new route from Doha to Guangzhou, which was launched in April this year, to offer more choice to both airline passengers.”

“It is a proud milestone for us to serve the prominent Chinese market in collaboration with our key partner, and look forward to extending our award-winning offerings to travellers flying through China.”

Adding to this was President and CEO of China Southern Air Holding Company Limited, Mr. Han Wensheng:

“China Southern Airlines launched a direct route from Guangzhou to Doha in April, which has strongly promoted the connectivity between China and countries and regions along the ‘Belt and Road Initiative’.”

“In the future, China Southern Airlines will deepen cooperation with Qatar Airways, strengthen complementary advantages, and work together to bring more comfortable and convenient travel experiences to our passengers.”

The links between Qatar and China has been strengthening over the past few months between both sides.

Around two months ago, China Southern Airlines launched services to Doha from Guangzhou.

Furthermore, within the Middle East as a whole, there has been much stronger cooperation with the Chinese mainland.

Back in May, Emirates signed a MoU with the China Cultural Centre to focus more on tourism for the country.

On top of this, Riyadh Air signed a MoU with Air China at the IATA AGM in Dubai a week ago.

Finally, China Eastern Airlines signed a joint venture deal with Etihad Airways, which is expected to begin in 2025.

So outside of Doha and in the Middle East, the links with China and the region is growing strongly.

For Qatar Airways, they join in on the growth of the Chinese market through pairing up with China Southern Airlines.

Looking ahead, all eyes will be on how this deal performs, as well as how far it will be expanded.

With the flights now in place, the codesharing revenue is a go, and represents the start of a new relationship in the Middle East.
