Qatar Airways Cargo has signed a further Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Japan Airlines. It strengthens their existing collaboration and promises enhanced service offerings for cargo customers.

The agreement builds upon the recently launched daily passenger services connecting Tokyo Haneda Airport and Hamad International Airport.

As longstanding oneworld alliance partners, Qatar Airways Cargo and Japan Airlines Cargo (JALCARGO) have now deepened their relationship through this strategic MoU. It will see a focus on delivering improved product offerings and achieving operational efficiencies.

Boosting Doha and Tokyo Network

The landmark agreement was formally executed by Qatar Airways Cargo’s Chief Officer Cargo, Mr. Mark Drusch, and Japan Airlines Senior Vice President of Cargo and Mail, Mr. Yuichiro Kito, with Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, in attendance.

“This MoU represents a significant commitment to integrating our networks through Doha and Tokyo hubs,” explained Mr. Mark Drusch. “Customers will benefit from enhanced connectivity, gaining access to expanded destinations across Europe, the Middle East, the Levant, and Africa.”

Mr. Yuichiro Kito emphasized the strategic importance of the partnership, noting, “This is a pivotal moment for JAL. After 13 years, we’ve recommenced our freighter operations. This agreement allows us to leverage our passenger flights and newly expanded network to deliver cargo more extensively than ever before.”

Proposed Freighter Service

The collaboration aims to streamline cargo transfer processes between the two carriers, promising greater efficiency for customers. Both organizations plan to optimize their mutual networks and explore broader cooperative opportunities.

A key milestone will be Qatar Airways Cargo’s planned freighter services from Doha to Tokyo. It will operate between Hamad International Airport and Japan Airlines’ Tokyo Narita hub in the coming year.

Economically, the partnership is poised to significantly boost trade flows between their respective regions. Over the past 12 months, the carriers have already facilitated 4,462 tonnes of import and export cargo in Japan. They hold expectations of substantial growth in the partnership’s future.
