A QantasLink flight from Townsville to Brisbane was forced to make an emergency landing in Rockhampton on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, due to a pressurization issue.

Qantaslink flight QF1871, operated by an Alliance Embraer E190, was operating the scheduled morning service from Townsville to Brisbane.

Whilst enroute, flight crew reported a possible cabin pressurisation issue. The aircraft descended to 10,000 feet and crew requested a diversion and priority landing in Rockhampton. The flight touched down safely in Rockhampton at around 7:15am local time.

Flight Details

Flight data shows that flight QF1871 made an on-time departure out of Townsville Airport (TSV) at 06:00 local time this morning. The flight then set course normally, climbing to flight level FL280 (28,000 feet) for the southerly regional service to Brisbane.

Flight crew initiated an emergency descent to 10,000 feet and squawked transponder code 7700 at 2033 UTC. The aircraft was descending through FL150 at that time, and the diversion was made to nearby Rockhampton Airport (ROK).

There were no reports of injuries among the passengers or crew. Qantas has launched an investigation into the incident to determine the cause of the pressurization problem.

A Qantas spokesperson confirmed the diversion and said that the airline is providing assistance to the affected passengers. “The safety of our passengers and crew is our top priority,” the spokesperson said.
