Flight Details
Flight data shows that flight QF1871 made an on-time departure out of Townsville Airport (TSV) at 06:00 local time this morning. The flight then set course normally, climbing to flight level FL280 (28,000 feet) for the southerly regional service to Brisbane.
Flight crew initiated an emergency descent to 10,000 feet and squawked transponder code 7700 at 2033 UTC. The aircraft was descending through FL150 at that time, and the diversion was made to nearby Rockhampton Airport (ROK).
There were no reports of injuries among the passengers or crew. Qantas has launched an investigation into the incident to determine the cause of the pressurization problem.
A Qantas spokesperson confirmed the diversion and said that the airline is providing assistance to the affected passengers. “The safety of our passengers and crew is our top priority,” the spokesperson said.
The aircraft conducting the QF1871 service to Brisbane Airport (BNE) was an Embraer ERJ-190, registered VH-UYR. This is a 17.1 year old regional jet aircraft belonging to the carrier Alliance Airlines. It has been in operational service with the airline since October 2021.
