Qantas is adding more capacity to its US network with the launch of direct flights from Melbourne to Honolulu starting in early May 2025. This new route will replace Jetstar’s current service.

The Australian flag carrier’s new service will boost capacity to Honolulu by over 40,000 seats per year. Combined with existing Qantas and Jetstar flights between Sydney and Honolulu, this will offer a total of eight weekly services to the Hawaiian capital.

Qantas will operate the Melbourne-Honolulu route three times a week using an Airbus A330 aircraft. To coincide with the launch, Jetstar will discontinue its twice-weekly Dreamliner 787 service from Melbourne to Honolulu as of April 30, 2025. The Dreamliner will be redeployed to another long-haul route.

To celebrate this announcement, Qantas is offering a 7-day North and South America Red Tail Sale. More than 50,000 discounted seats are available across the Qantas network. Economy sale fares start from $1,049 return, with over 30 routes included in the sale.

The sale fares are valid for travel between October 2024 and June 2025. Passengers can enjoy great deals on flights for business trips, family visits, or vacations. All sale fares include checked baggage, complimentary food and beverages, and seat selection. Qantas Frequent Flyers can also earn Qantas Points and Status Credits.

Qantas CEO International, Cam Wallace, expressed enthusiasm for the new routenet. He welcomed it as a further expansion of the carrier’s existing American presence.

“We are delighted to continue expanding our American network with the launch of a new route from Melbourne to Honolulu, offering a new, tropical destination to our Melbourne customers. Our new service ensures ongoing connectivity for Melbournians to Hawaii, while also allowing Jetstar to redeploy its 787 aircraft to other destinations and long-haul routes.”

In broader international news for the carrier, the Qantas Group returned to pre-COVID international capacity in May 2024. This was complemented with the return of more aircraft, including two more A380s.

The performance and popularity of Perth-London, Perth-Rome and since July, Perth-Paris, has provided a further boost. It inspires confidence in the proposed launch of non-stop flights to London and New York from Melbourne or Sydney. These will operate with the Airbus A350-1000ULR expected to arrive in mid-2026.
