Brisbane travelers can now book flights to an interesting new destination. Qantas has opened ticket sales for its new Palau service, with the first flight scheduled for December.
The Pacific Island Nation of Palau features over 300 islands, including the UNESCO World Heritage Listed Rock Islands. It now becomes the latest addition to Qantas’ expanding international network.
This marks the airline’s fifth international route launch from Queensland’s capital in the past year. The Palau route follows new services to Vanuatu and Manila.
Palau Pacific Express Launch
Operated under a Federal Government contract, the ‘Palau Paradise Express’ will strengthen connections between Australia and Palau. It will promote tourism, trade, and cultural exchange.
Commenting on the new route, Qantas CEO International Cam Wallace highlighted the strong market response.
“The announcement of our Palau service triggered immediate interest, with a significant spike in destination searches on our website. This demonstrates travelers’ enthusiasm for exploring lesser-known destinations.”
“Australian travelers constantly seek unique holiday experiences, and we’re delighted to connect our customers with Palau’s extraordinary offerings,” Wallace added.
Kadoi Ruluked, Director of Palau Visitors Authority, expressed enthusiasm about the new connection. “This direct Brisbane-Palau service strengthens the bonds between our nations. Visitors can now easily experience our crystal-clear waters, renowned diving spots, verdant jungles, historical sites, and rich cultural heritage.”
“The ‘Palau Paradise Express’ will boost both tourism and economic ties between our countries. We’re eager to showcase our island paradise to Qantas passengers and welcome more visitors to experience authentic Palau,” Ruluked continued.

The inaugural flight will depart Brisbane on Saturday 7 December 2024, marking the beginning of a weekly Boeing 737 service. With a flight duration of six hours, the Brisbane to Palau service will operate as QF165, while the return leg to Brisbane will operate as QF166.
About Palau
Travelers will discover an archipelago comprising more than 300 islands, crowned by the stunning UNESCO World Heritage Listed Rock Islands.
Upon arrival, visitors participate in a unique tradition by signing the Palau Pledge, demonstrating their commitment to protecting the island’s environmental and cultural heritage throughout their stay.
While the nation is renowned worldwide for its exceptional diving opportunities, the destination offers a wealth of experiences beyond underwater exploration. The nation’s rich cultural heritage is reflected in its matrilineal society, where women hold traditional authority over land management and clan financial matters.
Environmental conservation stands at the forefront of Palau’s values, exemplified by the establishment of the world’s first shark sanctuary in 2009, protecting an impressive 600,000 square kilometers of ocean.
Among its natural wonders, Jellyfish Lake stands out as a remarkable attraction, where millions of non-stinging jellyfish perform their daily migration across the lake’s waters.
