Having conducted an approach to RWY 18L, flight crew initiated a missed approach. During the go around procedure the aircraft’s left wing impacted the runway.
A subsequent FAA report confirmed the go around and left wingtip strike, stating the aircraft was then re-sequenced for its second approach.
The flight conducted a further approach to RWY18L and landed from the second approach attempt without further incident.
The Terminal Area Forecast (TAF) valid at the time of the flights approach to Charlotte Douglas International Airport indicated visibility was good, with the possibility of gusty winds.
The TAF further indicates warm temperatures with some potential for convective activity due to the presence of towering cumulus clouds.
