Pilot Falls Ill on Wizz Air Flight W61451 Warsaw-Larnaca

Earlier this week, Wizz Air flight W61451 bound for Larnaca had to make an emergency landing back into Warsaw due to a pilot falling ill.

Earlier this week, Wizz Air flight W61451 bound for Larnaca had to make an emergency landing back into Warsaw due to a pilot falling ill.

Information has been released pertinent to the incident at hand, which we will get into in this article.

Without further ado, let’s get into it…

Wizz Air Flight W61451 – Warsaw to Larnaca…


Earlier this week, Wizz Air flight W61451 bound for Larnaca had to make an emergency landing back into Warsaw due to a pilot falling ill.

Wizz Air flight W61451, which suffered the incident of a pilot falling ill, is a routine scheduled flight between Warsaw and Larnaca.

Furthermore, the flight was understood to have been operated by HA-LXC.

As per data from Planespotters.net, HA-LXC is a 8.6 year old Airbus A321ceo that was delivered to the airline back in February 2016.

Of the A321ceo variant, Wizz Air have 33 of them in the Hungarian AOC of the airline.

Also, of the 33, all but one are in active service, with an average fleet age of 7.2 years.

As well as the A321ceo, the airline has the following other aircraft in the Hungarian AOC:

  • 22 Airbus A320ceos.
  • 44 Airbus A321neos.

Wizz Air flight W61451, where the pilot fell ill, departed Warsaw at 0618 local time on August 19 and initially climbed out towards Larnaca.

As per The Aviation Herald, it is understood the Captain stopped the climb at FL100 due to the first officer falling ill.

From there, the decision was made for the flight to return back to the Polish airport, which it did so after nearly 30 minutes in flight.

Flight Continued On After The Incident…

Around four hours after the incident, the aircraft eventually continued on to Larnaca, where it arrived without further incident.

Furthermore, the status of the pilot who fell ill onboard Wizz Air W61451 Warsaw-Larnaca is unknown.

What we do know is that a replacement crew was utilized for the continuation of the service.
