A Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight operating from Dammam, Saudi Arabia to Lahore has declared an emergency shortly after takefoof.
PIA flight PK244, operated by an Airbus A320-200, declared an emergency squawking transponder code 7700 just after departure. The flight is now making a direct return to Dammam King Fahd International Airport (DMM).

Flight PK244 had climbed to flight level FL270 after departing King Fahd International Airport. Flight crew then terminated the climb and began a descent to 10,000 feet. The flight then returned to the origin airport at the reduced altitude.

PIA flight PK244 now appears to have landed at the origin airport King Fahd International Airport, having declared an emergency and made a direct return earlier today. The nature of the emergency has not yet been confirmed.

Flight data shows that flight PK244 had made its departure from Dammam (DMM) at 0156 local time today. The flight had set course normally and was on climb through FL270 (27,000 feet).
Flight crew then terminated the climb and initiated a descent to 10,000 feet. The pilots squawked emergency transponder code 7700 at 2319 UTC, once the aircraft was established at 10,000 feet. A direct return to Dammam was then conducted at that altitude.

The aircraft conducting the PK244 service to Lahore Allama Iqbal International Airport (LHE) was an Airbus A320-200, registered AP-BLC. This is a 28.6 year old narrowbody aircraft belong to the carrier Pakistan International Airlines. It has been in operational service with the airline since June 2014.
Prior to its current service, it was operated by China Eastern Airlines since its delivery from the factory in June 2004.
